How long did it take to get an Appeal or Hearing?

Had to correct this.   Onset date 7/1/2011.  Applied 7/1/2012.   

15 Months from time of application to first hearing.   4 more months for the 2nd hearing.
No decision yet.   And toes crossed too.

Appealed and on July 1, 2014 received a letter remanding back to ALJ. (18 Mo)
2/26/15 Received letter that they were going to review the file and hopefully decide with out another hearing.  (7 mo).

we applied before my husband had been fully diagnosed.  Had a crappy, greedy Attorney (Don't use Berry and Associates out of Georgia)  They actually did not submit any of his Mayo Clinic records, I faxed them to to them.   When asked why, they actually said "well, I had a problem getting them"  so, they ruled on the same info that we were denied on...   The told us " 10 attorneys have looked at your case, we are totally confident you will be approved"  BS, BS and more BS...
We did the appeal ouselves, got the attorney to release any claim.   Talked to several attorneys and they said not to hold our breath, but to appeal anyway.    18 months later we recieve a letter saying that they were remanding back to ALJ , they did not consider all medical info, they did not consider his age, they said he could work but failed to say what kind of work and said we proved that the Attorney was inappropriate and did not do his job.   
7 months later and they now are going to review the case and decide.   
I read in one posting that they will do this if they think that they can approve.  Not sure about that but one can hope.

I received the ruling by the ALJ in November 2014 dismissing my request for a hearing (basically dismissing my case - the hearing before the ALJ had taken place, but the ALJ made that moot by dismissing my request for a hearing). My appeal to the Appeals Council was submitted by the end of November, 2014. I just received notice that the Appeals Council vacated the ALJ's order of dismissal and remanded my case "for further processing" consistent with the Order of the Appeals Council, dated May 12, 2015.

While my appeal involved a very simple question of law, I expected the Appeals Council to take 10 to 14 months to issue a decision. I am very pleased with the decision as well as the fact that it was issued in less than 5 1/2 months.

I'm at almost 18 months and still waiting on a hearing date! My attorney requested an on the record decision and the alj received it on April 13/15,  Original application was 7/13 With onset date 7/12. 1st denial 8/13, second denial 11/13, request hearing 11/13.
Sclerosing mesenteritis, inoperable tumor, been to several GI specialist in the state, no cure! Can sit 15 mins at most, walk half a block on a good day. Take fentanyl 25 mcl every 48 hours, hi singla er  20 mg hydrocodone once daily, amytriptaleane 50 nightly. Extremely depressed but my anger is under control. 57 years old, solid 35 year work history with same company, high school graduate, semi skilled work in a petro chemical plant. First denial letter I received stated that they agreed I couldn't do my previous job!! Sooooo, I'm just waiting, July 1 will be 3 years since I left work! I'm losing hope!:-( I'm in NC living on the coast!

Boats,you,re waiting is right.State to state,there,s difference,s,not much though.The hearing(video) was 20 months wait,though approved was 6MONTH,S wait for back-pay and monthly to begin.had to live on savings in the meanwhile.LIFE IS GOODnow with less worry,still having problem.s with mobility,but physical therapy helps.You have same symptoms,you should get out there and try activity in the the wait,just posting,Thanks.

Thanks joe! I try to do what I can but it's not much!! I really miss being able to work in the yard! Never thought I'd say that! I'm lucky that all 3 of my boys live close.

Your age is a factor for A.L.J. to make a decision.You probably have read '' The Grid" ,having to do with age; education and skills. With 18 months wait you have a good chance for approval ,before or at hearing.Yea,Boats,We all miss  work,makes time pass,and gives us satisfaction of job well done.O.k.,THANKS!!!!

Thanks joejoe! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be at this point in my life. I started my first realJob at 20, worked my way to supervisor, loved my job, had it made, great pay, good benefits!!35 years of service gone with a blink of an eye!! I was always active, played ball all my life, all state short stop!! Active fisherman who took less fortunate kids fishing and letting them to experience the ocean. Their was nothing so powerful as to watch a child or adult catch their first fish!!! So I'm trying to do with the cards I've been dealt!!the attorney has requested an "OTR"  while waiting on a alj hearing date. I have looked at the Grid rule;  im 57, semi skilled, highschool, but I've already been told by ssa I can't do my previous job in the initial denial. And with my ailment I can't sit for more than 15/20 minutes and stand for than 45/60 depending on the day. The side affects from the fentnyl and hydrocodone that I've been taking for 3+ years keeps me a tad loopy with terrible memory loss! At least the Phychiatrist has helped me not have so much anger that I didn't handle very well. And in my state of nc you're breaking the law if you drive with opiates in your system, and believe me , I HAVE opiates in my system!

I think most of us didn't expect to be here, Boatslip. This was not part of my plan at all, I should have been vacationing abroad for the first time ever this summer. I miss mowing my lawn, spontaneous trips on my three day weekends..it's not the life I had planned for nearing  retirement age. Accepting is difficult, and for me, I get really anxious because I can't work, and stress makes it all worse, so it's a vicious cycle. 

I believe we can find a way to accept and be happy in our new lives, we just have to keep searching for the mix that does it.

I know this is a very old post, but this is 'exactly' what I hope the appeals council do with my case.

My ALJ Judge avoided all my medical documentation, even including 2 separate specialists I had seen, and sayingI would miss 4 or more days in each report, labeling me as fully disabled.

The judge basically told me to get the F*** out of his court as I did not look disabled.

Live in MI and it took from November 2011 to February 2013 to receive remand notice back to ALJ. Decision of ALJ was vacated by the Appeals Council due to lack of all medical evidence being applied in his decision. SS guidelines were not followed in the decision making process. ALJ ordered to look at all medical evidence and further develop the record and issue a new decision.

It took 15 months from the initial AC filing to getting a remand.

Based on my experience handling hundreds of AC appeals, it generally takes 6-9 months to receive a decision from the AC
but there is an expedited procedure if you can meet/prove dire need or situation is a critical case.
