What to do when waiting for ALJ decision
« on: June 25, 2021, 04:22:17 pm »
I have a MySsa account and my hearing was held on May 21. My status still says the judge is now reviewing your case

Welcome to the forum Bentnotbroken.

 :Welcome07: :Welcome08: :Welcome01:

Now the wait begins. I remember when I was at the ALJ hearing period that the wait after the hearing was the most stressful waiting for the official decision letter. Hopefully everything went smooth and your ALJ doesn't keep you waiting a long time. Keep us posted when you get your decision. Really other than keeping a positive outlook on things there really is nothing else you can do during your wait.

Have you tried posting without using apostrophes or quote marks in your writing? Sometimes that causes posts to get cut off (aka "the glitch").

I remember the wait...I thought all the previous waits were excruciating, but the ALJ hearing wait was the worst.  I would check MYSSA account 3 times per day - upon waking, midday and before going to bed.  I tried to keep my mind occupied throughout the day, by listening to music as I rested or watching tv shows that were easy watching, such as cooking channels or DIY channels.  I avoided any political tv channels, so as not to get me agitated.

Does anyone know what updates first? Myssa or the 800 or the oho office? Or will the letter in the mail come first?

Thank u for all responding even tho it was only a partial post! The waiting has been really tough especially because my original hearing was scheduled for over a year ago and was being pushed because the original judge didnt want to have the hearing over the phone. But I am def not complaining because I ended up with a diff judge and I am sure it was for the better. I just want to kno how to find out the judgement as soon as humanely possible so I finally feel like I can breathe  :Main06:

It varies, depending on the area. The info the 800# gives is not always accurate. Your OHO office may or may not give you the info over the phone. Sometimes the website updates before the letter is received and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't believe anyone at OHO is supposed to tell you the decision even once it's signed by the judge and mailed. Prior to the judge's final signature, they definitely can't tell you much beyond "It's with the writers", "It's waiting for the judge's signature", and other mind-teases that will just make you even more anxious during the wait IMO.

I would just keep checking your online SSA account approx 2-3x/day*. These days it seems that most people find out the decision online first vs. through the mail.

*I suggest 2-3x/day only as an upper limit to save your sanity in case you're checking it round-the-clock.
