Medicare
« on: July 12, 2022, 07:29:41 pm »
My EOD is March 1, 2019 and I was found fully favorable on 7/8/22 OTR.  I am assuming, I qualify for Medicare as soon as SS processes my application. My concern is that a friend of mine was just recently awarded, and he paid two months of Medicare without knowing that he was already enrolled.

I have to notify Tricare as soon as I get Medicare.  Typically, how soon after I receive the award letter will Medicare kick in and does it start the first of a month?

 Thank you!
Initial 09/19 Recon 3/20
ALJ 06/20 AC 10/20
Federal 10/20
New app 10/20 Recon 10/21
ALJ approved 3/22 then vacated
Fed Remand 1/22
Fed and ALJ combined: Won via OTR 7/22

FWIW, I received my medicare card in the mail two days after receiving my AWARD* letter in the mail and the medicare was active immediately (I could start using it with doctors and set up my medicare online account) since my EOD was over 2 years in the past like yourself.

*First you get a decision letter letting you know Fully Favorable and then you'll receive the award letter with the money breakdown, etc.

You do not have to notify Tricare battle...I had Tricare Prime and they will switch you over automatically to Trucare for Life the day you become eligible for Medicare. I did call and they rold me it be automatically.
