I have been on this drug for more than 6 months. At first this drug helped me, but not so much now. I started taking Geodon 30 mg, which was fine, the voices only happened weekly. Then my doctor up the dosage from 60 mg where I started shuffling my feet and sleeping longer than normal to 80 mg because the hallucinations still occured not as frequently. This is something I don't recommend. I had little to no voices at time, but the shuffling became worse as well as my motor functions were majorly off, very clumsy. Also it was difficult to put clothes on especially quickly and speech was slower than normal. Now I am waning off of the medication and switching to Abilify.

My psychiatrist said that Geodon is an older antipsychotic and she has taken several clients off of it because of its side effects.  Abilify is very good but one of its side effects is considerable weight gain.  Latuda is something to ask about because it does not cause weight gain.  Best of luck to you.

I always thought Abilify was supposed to be more "weight neutral" than other drugs in its class, or at least that it caused less weight gain than other similar meds. Of course, everyone's mileage may vary.

I gained 60 lbs. on it over 1 1/2 years and had to have weight loss surgery.
