First Payment, Back Pay and Beyond / Re: Bank account closed, what happens now?
« Last post by Pete416 on November 25, 2022, 08:15:59 pm »
When a person owes a bank for a closed account. They should be able to pay what they owe and open another account at that bank or another one..
I had $2 in my account at a Midwest bank and didn't need to use it for 3 years (was waiting for Disability approval so no money in all that time) they charged me $5 for having not used it in all that time (I didn't even bother checking it as I had $0 coming in that whole time) and I went -$3 for a bit.

They eventually reversed the charge and closed the account, I was surprised because I didn't know about any timeframe of not using the account but I was able to easily open another Checking Account at the same bank 1 month later (when I was finally approved for SSDI).

First Payment, Back Pay and Beyond / Re: 2023 Effective COLA SSDI

I can confirm by reading my pdf file of the new COLA adjustment is for January....not December I'll still get this year's amount on December 1st. Then the new amount on January 3rd.

I know it says next payment reflects the adjusted COLA, but JustMe is right, it will go into effect in 2023...

No, never did ttw.  It's a review where they look at your earnings to determine if you're still eligible for benefits.

As DisabledInWI stated. SSA pays a month behind. The COLA will not be reflected in benefits received until January 2023. If you receive SSI, you will receive your Jan 1 payment the last business day of Dec 2022 for Jan 1,2023

Seems to be varying info about the initial COLA increase as to when it begins to go into benefit payouts.  I just logged into my SSA acct to re-check what I posted a couple days ago and it still says my new COLA adjusted amount will hit thru direct deposit on its regularly scheduled day in the first week of December.

I thought you received jan 23 payment in december.  I posted that but second guessed my self and since I couldnt delete post I just left a couple dashed after edit.  I remember after my overpayment hearing i had to pay the ssa back and i asked to reduce the monthly payment but unfortunately the first payment they took entire monthly amt including my part b medicare and after i called ssa i was told they pay this way.  has something to do with when they first start paying benefits.

Social Security pays a month behind, meaning the payment you receive next month (December) will be the November payment and so on. The December payment (which we'll receive in January 2023) will have the new amount with COLA added and decreased Medicare premium. The same thing was spelled out in my award letter. It said my first payment would be for August 2012 and that it would be paid in September 2012.

I just received my 2023 Cost of Living Adjustment notice and the very last line that shows what my payment amount will be for next year it says:

After we take any other deductions, you will receive $x,xxx
the payment you are due for December 2022 on or about
January 3, 2023.

So no updated amount until January of next year.
