      You would have been denied SSDI disability.  You are, however, still eligible for SSI Disability.  That is based on income.  Chances are they are still considering your case. 
     You can't appeal the SSDI decision because you have no work history and it is what it is.  I would call Social Security or go to your local office and see if they are still processing your SSI claim and if so get something in writing to prove it.  Please let me know what happens.

I do know that they are yes still processing my ssi claim. What if i have 0 income and havent in a long time

SSDI is the one that unfortunately you won't qualify for no matter what. It is the program where people pay into from their paychecks, and you have to accrue enough "credits" in order to get it.

You should however be getting your SSI....remind me when you applied? How long did they say it would take to get a decision??

Hello Mousey and thank you so much for the information. I cant help but be so confused in all of this i have a couple questions that maybe you can answer for me? :]

Now for one, everyonne's saying i should be qualified to receive "SSI" now is there a difference between SSI, and Disability, or are they the same thing. I have a paper here about "APPLICATION SUMMARY FOR SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME" So, im assuming i applied for that. Is this the one that's not based off income. If i remember SSDI is the one that's based off of income right? If so i got denied for that right away. So if thats not SSI, then i guess thats whats still pending for me.

Secondly. About your last link about payouts. Those years and the prices, do they count from they year you were born, or the year that you became disabled?

Hi Boo the answer to your question is this, SSI IS BASED  ON YOUR INCOME AND THE SSDI IS BASED ON YOUR WORK HISTORY.I just posted some info under another thread here it is.  In your case since you don't have the work history yours would not be a 6 month trial as long as they find you medically disable, that decision was made in 5 months for me.

This is the way it work in Tennessee, I applied for both in August 2010 on January 3 2011 SSI called to say they found me medically disable and that I was approved for SSI, after asking me several questions, about income, my household and did I get any help from others, she basically said that I did not meet income status. Because SSI IS BASICALLY A WELFARE TYPE PROGRAM AND THIS IS WHAT SHE SAID. SSI  is only a mean of income until the final decision is made with the SSDI, she said that the local office make the decision on SSI and another location makes the decision on SSDI.If SSDI IS APPROVED THE SSI PAYMENTS WOULD BE DEDUCTED FROM MY SSDI, BUT IF SSDI WAS NOT APPROVED I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS BACK, IT IS ALSO JUST A 6 MONTH TRIAL OF INCOME OF  SSI. Since I had a income of more than the 674.00 that Tennessee gives under the SSI, I DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE SSI.

EXAMPLE  IF MY MONTHLY INCOME WAS 300.00 THEY WOULD GIVE ME 374.00 IN SSI. I AM GLAD I DID NOT QUALIFY!!!!

Okay i think i got all of that so if i did get approved i'd only qualify for ssi, ive been denied SSDI already because ive only ever worked 4months in my life.

I have absolutely 0 income, and my husband gets unemployment.

So if i got denied ssdi id get the full amount of SSI?

This is a short term benefit for people who live in California, maximum 52 weeks. However, you would need work credits to qualify )(they only pay you if you paid into the CASDI.) It may be worth a call to EDD to see if you might qualify for anything. http://www.edd.ca.gov/disability/

I'm so praying for you that you find some resources very soon. How long has your husband been on unemployment? Is he able to work? Maybe there is something good coming down the pike for you two, as it sounds like it has been a rough road.

700 i hope! That'd be nice to have some money to get my own place and things that i need.

Thats where i applied for, i didnt do it through california but through the social security website.


As for my husband, he actually cannot work. He has been a body builder and a mma fighter for a long time, after years of that, and when he had his job as a flow team member at target for a year (unloading trucks and stocking shelves) he has severely damaged his hands, sometimes it gets so bad that he cannot open a water bottle and says it feels like his hand up to his elbow are rotting away like acid was eatting away at it.. But he doesnt have insurance so we cant do anything.. hes been on it since october

Oh Boo, I am sorry to hear about your hubby. Is he going to apply for SSDI as well? Is he older than you (read: would he have the work credits necessary to apply and qualify for SSDI?)

Sorry to confuse you about the "other" disability in California. FYI, California is one of only a handful of states that offers this type of program. It is similar to unemployment. When you work and have taxes taken out, a portion of your paycheck is taken out for the CA State Disability Insurance program. In the event you become disabled, in California we can apply for CA State Disability. This is a totally separate program that the Social Security ones we discuss on this site.

You need to have a certain number of work credits in order to qualify for the CA State Disability...but it is worth a CALL. Here is the number to call tomorrow: (800) 480-3287. Follow prompts until you get through to someone. Ask if you are eligible to apply.
